Linkedin Personal URL - why you should do it!

First impressions are formed within 7-17 seconds, we can't stop people making them, but when it comes to Linkedin we can sure help influence those snap decisions.

Studies have shown first impressions are formed within 7 to 17 seconds of meeting someone and 55% of a person's opinion is determined by physical appearance.

When it comes to your linkedin profile, why not enhance it to it's full potential, by taking advantage of the Public profile URL option. This is important part of ensuring your profile will be easy to find, instead of a URL with a bunch of random numbers at the end of your name, you'll have a custom URL similar to: linkedin.com/in/ClaireMRoper.

I customised my URL to appear simliar to my other social media networks, so my personal online branding is streamlined across my channels.

How do you do it?

It's super easy, in fact so easy you'll wonder why you hadn't done it before! Make sure you are on your profile page, underneath your photograph you'll see a URL and on the right hand side of this is a small cog, click the cog.

Editing your Personal URL

A new page will open, called Public Profile, on the right had side will be Your Public Profile URL, click the little pencil and edit your URL.

LinkedIn have a few requirements, your custom URL must contain 5-30 letters or numbers, don't use any spaces, symbols, or special characters.

But other than that, you are free to edit your personal URL, you may need to add in a middle initial if your name isn't available.

Promoting your Personal URL

Once your personal URL has been created, head over to your other social media channels and update your profile, if you have a blog, add the URL to your profile, not forgetting your contact us page on your website, business cards and last but not least, your personal and work email footer.

Why not share the love of your personal Linkedin URL and make yourself super easy to find on LinkedIn!
