Back in 2018, I had the privilege of contributing to the Women in Technology campaign — an initiative close to my heart that aimed to spotlight and celebrate the achievements of women across STEM industries. One of the highlights of this campaign was an exclusive feature with Bernadette Collins, then Senior Strategy Engineer at Sahara Force India (now Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team).

A Woman in the Fast Lane
Bernadette joined us to discuss her pivotal role within Formula One, where milliseconds matter and strategy is everything. She spoke candidly about her journey into motorsport, her day-to-day responsibilities on race weekends, and how data, decision-making, and teamwork intersect in one of the world’s most high-pressure sporting environments.
From setting pit stop strategies to making real-time calls that impact race outcomes, Bernadette’s story was not only fascinating — it was empowering.
Why This Mattered
The goal of the campaign was to provide visibility to women in fields often seen as male-dominated. Bernadette’s blog feature did exactly that. It showed young women (and men) that high-performance engineering, data science, and leadership in sport are well within reach — and that the face of technology is changing.
Industry Reaction
The blog was promoted on the campaign landing page and shared widely through industry networks. It was positively received, sparking meaningful conversations about representation, innovation, and the importance of mentorship in tech. For many, it was the first time they had seen the behind-the-scenes of F1 strategy from a woman’s perspective.
A Lasting Impact
Looking back, this interview wasn’t just a campaign feature — it was a moment that helped shift perception and highlight what’s possible. Bernadette’s success is a testament to what can happen when talent, opportunity, and support collide — and why we must continue to elevate diverse voices in technology.
